How to use
Get set up, then shoot.
SureHold works in your phone's browser and installs like an app. Do the setup once at home with signal, and it is ready at the range.
1. Put it on your home screen
Open sureholdballistics.com in your phone's browser first, then:
iPhone or iPad (Safari)
- 1Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow, at the bottom or top of Safari).
- 2Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
- 3Tap Add. The SureHold icon appears with your other apps.
It must be Safari on iPhone. Other browsers do not offer this.
Android (Chrome)
- 1Tap the three dots at the top right of Chrome.
- 2Tap Install app (or Add to Home screen).
- 3Tap Install. The SureHold icon appears with your other apps.
On a computer, Chrome and Edge show an install icon in the address bar.
2. Create an account
Make an account with your email and a password. Your rifles and shots are saved to it, so you can use another phone or computer later.
3. Add your rifle and load
Open My rifles. Pick your cartridge, enter your twist rate, sight height and zero distance, then add the load you shoot (or start from the factory ammo list): bullet weight in grains, ballistic coefficient (BC) and muzzle velocity in fps. Box numbers are fine to start. Calibration improves them later.
4. Log a range day: the main feature
- 1Open Range log and tap Start a range day. Local weather fills in for you.
- 2Enter the target distance. SureHold suggests what to dial.
- 3Fire, then record what you dialed and where the shot landed compared with your aim point.
- 4After several shots at different distances, calibrate. SureHold fits your real muzzle velocity and BC, so the next prediction matches your rifle, not the box.
Will it work with no signal?
Yes, for the range log. Once you have opened the app with signal, it opens with none, and every shot you log is saved on your phone and sent to your account automatically when signal comes back.
Works offline
- Opening the app and your range log
- Starting a range day (type the weather instead)
- Logging shots and seeing what to dial
- Your saved rifles and loads
Needs signal
- Signing in or creating your account
- Filling in local weather automatically
- Saving a calibration to your account
- Backing your shots up to your account
Tip before you drive out: open the app at home, make sure you are signed in, and look at your range log and rifles once, so everything is stored on your phone. A page you have never opened is not available offline.
Free and paid
The calculators are free with no account. A free account includes 1 rifle, 1 load and up to 3 logged shots, which lets you try the range log. Unlimited shots and rifles, and calibration from your shots, are on the paid plan.
Good to know
- The more distances and conditions you log, the better the calibration.
- Made a typo? Tap Edit next to a shot to fix it. Export your shots as a CSV, or print a range card, from the range log.
- SureHold never suggests powder charges or loads. Log your own and follow published load data.
