Density altitude

Temperature, pressure, humidity and altitude in; density altitude, air density and speed of sound out. The air your bullet actually flies through.

Conditions

Use the altitude of where you are shooting, not sea level.

A weather app or airport report gives sea-level pressure. A Kestrel or barometer on the spot reads station pressure.

Density altitude

7915 ft

The altitude in a standard atmosphere with the same air density. What your bullet feels.

Air density

78.8%

of standard sea level (0.0603 lb/ft³)

Pressure altitude

4996 ft

Altitude from pressure alone.

Speed of sound

1147 fps

Sets where Mach 1 is.

Station pressure

24.90 inHg

At your location.

Sea-level pressure

29.93 inHg

As a weather report would give.

Air density falls with altitude and heat and rises with pressure. Humidity makes air very slightly less dense. Density altitude is the number most useful for comparing conditions: the higher it is, the less drag your bullet sees. Station pressure is what a barometer or Kestrel reads on the spot; a weather app gives sea-level pressure, which needs your altitude to convert.
